Privacy by Design (PbD), a framework developed by Ann Cavoukian, was unanimously passed as an international framework for privacy and data protection in 2010, by the International Assembly of Privacy Commissioners and Data Protection Authorities. Since then, it has been translated into 38 languages, giving it a true global presence. It is intended to complement regulatory compliance by proactively embedding much-needed privacy-protective measures directly into Information Technologies, business practices and networked infrastructure. By identifying the risks before they occur, proactive measures may be introduced to prevent privacy harms from arising. PbD is a model of prevention that minimizes the likelihood of privacy infractions and data breaches. Furthermore, PbD has recently been included as a critical component of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
In 2015, under the leadership of Dr. Cavoukian, Ryerson University embarked upon the Certification of Privacy by Design, in partnership with Deloitte. This certification program operationalizes the 7 Foundational Principles of PbD with a set of measurable criteria as part of a formal methodology to assess products and services.
In this webinar, Dr. Cavoukian and Sylvia Kingsmill will provide:
- An overview of PbD, the certification program and how it works;
- Demonstrate how it can help companies embed privacy into their business processes; and,
- Iterate their points with a real case study. The case study will illustrate how to put PbD into practice and the business benefits of doing so.
