In her article, Buffone, discusses the fact that 80% of health data in unstructured – that is, data that is found in clinical notes, PDFs, word docs and other formats. With the growth of unstructured data come the possibility of unlocking insight and analytics for secondary use. Of course, protecting patient privacy is always paramount – which is why she advocates for a risk-based approach to de-identification.
